From team Trolley to Team Backpack
I clearly remember when you had to start paying to bring a suitcase suddenly everyone began traveling with a trolley. Even the most vain traveler could now go on a trip with just a few items. And it turned out to be very convenient to keep that little suitcase with you.
From April 2024 my favorite airline charges you if you want to bring your trolley into the cabin. Are we going to lug even less and travel with just a backpack from now on?
Team Trolley
I had just gotten used to the trolley, and now we have to pay for it too. I previously mentioned in my Team Trolley blog that I didn't mind it that much. But now that it’s no longer a choice and you have to pay for it regardless, it's just a bit different. Maybe it’s even fun to take on the challenge of traveling with just a backpack for once.
Weekend in Spain
Packing only a backpack for a family holiday is out of the question. That's going too far. But a few days at a beach destination in Spain might just work.
First, choose a hotel that provides towels and includes shampoo and shower gel. Then, divide the rest of the toiletries among yourselves. Bringing an extra pair of shoes is tricky, so choose something chic or comfortable enough for a night out during the trip. Slippers are indispensable, of course, and they fit nicely in the back pocket of your backpack.
How many outfits to pack?
For beachwear, we’ll bring even less than we did with just the trolley: only one or two pieces. And unfortunately… the same bikini every day. As for other clothes for an afternoon of shopping or an evening of tapas tasting, take what fits and stuff your backpack.
What not to bring?
Unfortunately for the photographers among us, the camera has to stay home. It takes up half the backpack and just can't come along. So, this trip will have to be to a destination you've already visited.
Do you like wearing a hat or cap on the beach to protect from the sun? Pick something nice from one of the many trinket shops. And wear it on the way back. Makeup will come along, but only the essentials. After a day of soaking up the rays, you don’t need blush, right?
Things we bring "just in case" were already not coming along, and now definitely not. Same for reading material. You don’t need it at a cool, sunny destination! It’s a waste of time to bury your nose in a book when so much is happening around you!
